Christian artist to accomplish in Maryville

Christian singer/songwriter/guitarist Derek Webb will outdo Maryville College's February Meetings, scheduled for Tues., Feb. 7.

Webb will be the boarder speaker for Community Worship, which meets at 1 p.m. in the Harold and Jean Lambert Performance Hall of the Clayton Center for the Arts. At 7 p.m., he will perform a concert in the Clayton Center's Ronald and Lynda Nutt Performing.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Webb, 37, was a associate of the folk/rock band "Caedmon's Call," which formed in Houston, Texas, in the anciently 1990s. Since embarking on a solo career 10 years ago, he has earned a repute as a provocative singer/songwriter who challenges the political and spiritual importance quo.

With albums "Stockholm Syndrome," "Mockingbird," "I See Things Upside Down" and "She Must and Shall Go Permitted," Webb's innovative work has received broad coverage from Paste Periodical to USA Today and the Los Angeles Times. He was recently named one of Performing Songwriter munitions dump's "100 most influential independent artists of the past 15 years.
