The most current case to makeheadlines was that of 15-year-old Sahar Gul , who hadbeen locked in a basement and tortured for five months by her in-laws,allegedly because she refused efforts to pry her into prostitution. These crimeswere not perpetrated by the Taliban, but instead some of the most extrememanifestations of house-broken violence in Afghanistan.
