The Village of Lemont’s personnel guide was amended this week, extending the definition of immediate family to include civil partners.

Trustees passed a proposal Monday night amending wording in the manual to include caring for an ill or injured courteous partner as allowable sick leave usage and the death of a courteous partner as allowable funeral leave.

The village is making the changes to agree with updates to state law recently passed by the Illinois General Congregation, Village Administrator Benjamin Wehmeier said. The revisions are required by the Illinois Undeviating Freedom Protection and Civil Union Act as well as the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, the stubbornness states.

The revisions adopted also prohibit discrimination based on internal partner status and extend restrictions, on the hiring of relatives, to lay partners and their immediate family members, according to the revised manual.

Discrimination based on genetic bumf is also prohibited under the revisions and employees will not be requested to provide genetic intelligence, the revised manual states.
